  1. The Human Body The human body is amazing. It defies our intelligence to believe that there are those who say they do not believe in creation and that somehow, all things simply evolved from nothing. There are so many features about the human brain and body that absolutely preclude the notion of evolution, due to requisite co-existing organs, etc. 

  2. Some Amazing Facts: The average human brain has about 100 billion nerve cells. Nerve impulses to and from the brain travel as fast as 170 miles (274 km) per hour. Your stomach needs to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks, or it would digest itself.

  3. Some Amazing Facts: Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete. Babies are born without knee caps. They don't appear until the child reaches 2-6 years of age. Your skull is made up of 29 different bones. The average surface of the human intestine is 656 square feet (200 m). The surface of the human skin is 6.5 square feet (2m).  15 million blood cells are destroyed in the human body every second. Every year about 98% of the atoms in your body are replaced.

  4. Some Amazing Facts: There are 45 miles (72 km) of nerves in the skin of a human being. The average human heart will beat 2. 5 billion times in its lifetime and pump 48 million gallons of blood. Each square inch (2.5 cm) of human skin consists of 20 feet (6 m) of blood vessels. Human blood travels 60,000 miles (96,540 km) per day on its journey through the body.   5. The Human Body • The more we learn about the human body, the less trouble we have understanding David’s exclamation: • “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” {Psalm 139:14}

The Human Body • One reason the human body is seen as important in the Scriptures is because it houses man’s eternal spirit: • “For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven.” {2 Corinthians 5:1,2}

  7. The Human Body • The Bible tells us not to fear the ones who kill the body—but the soul! • “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” {Matthew 10:28}

The Human Body • We can dishonor our bodies. • The body is the soul’s temple. • “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.” {1 Corinthians 6:19,20}

  9. The Human Body • We can dishonor our bodies. • “And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!” {1 Corinthians 6:14,15}

The Human Body • Admittedly, the body has certain necessities. • “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing…What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear…‘“ {Matthew 6:25,31}

  11. The Human Body • Admittedly, the body has certain necessities. • “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” {Matthew 6:32,33}

  12. The Human Body • The Bible teaches us to love our bodies. • “So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” {Ephesians 5:28,29}

  13. The Human Body • We are to control our bodies. • “For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.” {James 3:2}

  14. The Human Body • You are the only one who can control your body. • “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” {1 Corinthians 9:27}

The Human Body • The body is to be a living sacrifice. • “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” {Romans 12:1,2}

  16. The Human Body • The body in the husband-and-wife relationship. • “Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time...” {1 Corinthians 7:3-5}

The Human Body • Regarding the physical body, Deity indwelt in it. • “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” {Hebrews 4:15,16}

  18. Conclusion… Based on what we have seen about the body, we know it is not exempt from the application of Biblical principles and responsibilities. The body--due to habitat, conveyance, and stewardship--enters into any discussion of our service to God. We do not, then, have the right to ignore or mistreat our bodies. 

  19. Conclusion… Serious lack of rest for the body, the inhalation or injection of harmful chemicals, and other too-common practices are forbidden, as they can, and often do, render injury to the body.

  20. Conclusion… Just because the Bible treats the body as comparatively less important than the soul, it does not mean we are justified in relegating the body to unimportance, irrelevance, and even oblivion. In the end, our bodies will be changed(1 John 3: 2).  In the spiritual realm to come, we’ll have bodies that are designed for the celestial (1 Corinthians 15:35).
