  1. MR. WEBSTERWORLD GEOGRAPHY/HISTORY COURSE EXPECTATIONS 2019-2020

  2. Instructor: Mr. Webster (Room 301) Textbook: People, Places, and Change • I. COURSE SCOPE AND GOALS • This is a one year eighth grade course that is designed to offer a comprehensive, yet specified study of World Geography/History. Good writing habits, critical thinking, attention to detail, and application of principles and theories to real life events will all be emphasized.

COURSE CONTENT OUTLINE • The content of this course will include, but is not limited to the following: • 1) Physical geography. • 2) Climate and weather. • 3) Cartography and map reading. • 4) Land forms. • 5) Study of the world's countries, cities, principle waterways, and unique landmarks. • 6) How land, climate, history and resources influence a country's economic and political strength. • 7) Culture - How it changes, and how it causes conflict between and within nations.

  4. ALL THIS FANCY SMANCY STUFF BASICALLY MEANS: • THIS CLASS IS DESIGNED TO: • HELP STUDENTS UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE THEIR WORLD • SPARK CURIOSITY ABOUT EARTHS WIDE DIVERSITY OF ENVIRONMENTS AND CULTURE

  5. II. CLASS MATERIALS: • Each student is required to keep an Interactive Geography notebook. This notebook must be brought to class daily. Scheduled and unannounced notebook checks will occur throughout the year. The Geography notebook must include the following: Table of Contents, Unit Covers, Class notes, And all applicable assignments.

  6. WHAT DO I NEED FOR THIS CLASS EVERYONE NEEDS A SPIRAL BOUND NOTEBOOK…AND 0 Period – Ream of Colored Paper 1st Period – Ream of White Paper 3rd Period – Pair of Scissors 4th Period – Box of Tissue 5th Period – Box of Pencils 6th Period – Box of Pencils

  7. III. GRADING PRACTICES/POLICIES • A= 100-90% • B= 89-80% • C = 79-70% • D = 69-60% • F = 59 or below • Daily Performance = 80% - SEE NEXT SLIDES • Assessments = 20%-QUIZES, TESTS, PROJECT

  8. DAILY PERFORMANCE • 5 POINTS A DAY ON YOUR: • WORK OUTPUT • BEHAVIOR • SMART PHONE USE (DUMB PHONE USE) • WORK ETHIC • ABILITY TO FOLLOW CLASSROOM PROCEDURES • DAILY PERFORMANCE POINTS WILL BE EXCUSED FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES

DAILY PERFORMANCE-STRIVING FOR 5!!!!!! • APPROXIMATELY 45 DAYS PER QUARTER • 45 x 5 = 225 Points • THEREFORE A FEW BAD DAYS WILL NOT DESTROY YOUR GRADE….. • HOWEVER MANY, MANY BAD DAYS WILL DESTROY YOUR GRADE • BE CONSISTENT IN STRIVING FOR 5!!! • GRADEBOOK UPDATED DAILY ON INFINITE CAMPUS – CHECK YOURSELF!!!

PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE • 1ST Offense: A verbal warning • 2nd Offense: Student/Teacher Conference • 3rd Offense: Home Contact • 4th Offense: Counselors Referral/Second Home Contact • 5th Offense: Office Involvement • *The teacher reserves the right to bypass any step with more severe instances of misbehavior.

  11. Absent Policy • Following CCSD regulations, teachers shall provide an opportunity for a student to make up missed work due to any absence, and students shall be accountable for the work. When a student is absent, however, the educational experiences lost during that absence might be irretrievable because the instruction and interaction in the instructional setting cannot be duplicated through makeup work.

  12. OFF CAMPUS BY 3:15 pm • Please be off campus by 3:15 pm • Exception for students in clubs/activities – for those students must be off campus by 4:15 or take late bus
