IT Apprenticeships

NowSkills began delivering IT apprenticeships since 2013. Along the way, weu2019ve learned what it takes to create successful IT apprenticeships. Our IT apprentices are a mix of already employed professionals who are looking for substantial new digital skills and qualifications with their current employer, and new-to-work IT apprentices who have a particular flair for technology, for example, coding, and who need an employer that can identify their potential and will help them to kick start their career.<br>

  2. IT Apprenticeships - What Is It And What Skills Do I Need? IT Apprenticeships is an exciting opportunity for young people who have an interest in IT or similar professions and wish to progress their career to a qualification at a later date. Apprenticeship is basically a structured system for training an existing generation of professionals in a specific trade or profession with both on-the-job and occasionally some accompanying formal study also provided. Apprenticeships may also allow young professionals to acquire a legally valid license to work in a regulated occupational field. It is the period during which these apprenticeships take place, and the length of time in which they may continue to work as an apprentice, that determines their eventual placement in an IT industry or function. Skilled apprenticeships are generally shorter than the average apprenticeships, which take several months from the applicant's entry to the apprentice stage to the end of their final degree level. Skilled IT apprenticeships are usually held by IT industries or recruitment agencies and require the IT apprentice to complete a set number of classes or hours of practical work before they may be deemed eligible to start university-level classes. Applicants who successfully completed the first two years of an IT apprenticeship are usually awarded an IT portfolio that demonstrates their progression throughout their IT apprenticeship. The portfolio is designed to demonstrate the abilities of the IT apprentice and to demonstrate their technical competencies.

  3. Intermediate IT Apprenticeships takes a slightly longer time to complete than the standard apprenticeships, and they are usually conducted by universities or colleges. These courses involve a combination of classroom learning and practical work. At the end of the Intermediate IT Apprenticeship, students will usually be expected to either obtain a degree level qualification, or gain an equivalent certificate to enable them to apply for a suitable university course. Skilled IT apprentices will usually be awarded a further year of training once they have gained a qualification, or they may be offered additional advanced qualifications in order to upgrade their skills.
