Grants Programme Dates • Small grantsbetween £1,000 and £5,000, for projects which contribute to Hackney's Sustainable Community Strategy objectives. • Open for applications from 15th April 2013. Closing Date 24th May 2013 • Community Chest grantsfor up to £1,000, Which contribute to Hackney's Equality Objectives. • Open for applications from 6th May 2013. Closing Date 31st May 2013

  3. 2013/14 Hackney's Sustainable Community Strategy 6 Objectives Objective 1: Reduce poverty by supporting residents into sustainable employment, and promoting employment opportunities. Objective 2: Help residents to become better qualified and raise educational aspirations. Objective 3: Promote health and wellbeing for all, and support independent living. Objective 4: Make the borough safer, and help people to feel safe in Hackney. Objective 5: Promote mixed communities in well-designed neighborhoods, where people can access high quality, affordable housing. Objective 6: Be a sustainable community, where all citizens take pride in and take care of Hackney and its environment, for future generations.

Equality Objectives for 2012/2016 Equality Objectives for 2012/2016 are: • Deliver actions which aim to narrow the gap in outcomes between certain disadvantaged groups and the wider community  • Improve the way we listen to our residents and respond to service users' feedback to improve services • Foster good relations by building a strong sense of community, neighborliness and pride

Changes to the Community Chest • Applications will only be considered for funding if the proposed project or activity meets the above equality objective.Please note that the Community Chest grant does not fund on-going or repeat activities. The guidance on completing the application form in the guidance document page 60 says..... • 3.6 Equality Objective – this question is scored.  We would like you to tell us how you will know if your project/activity has met the purpose of the Community Chest grant which is to “To foster good relations, by building a strong sense of community neighbourliness and pride”?  • You will need to think about how you will  get feedback on your project or activity from the people using the service or involved in the activity.   For example, you may want to collect feedback through questionnaires, interviews, case studies or any other ways.

  9. Key Questions Project summery of your Project or Activity? What is the name of the Project or Activity? Key point - Provide some identity to you project, give it a name Key point - Brief outline of the project that will enable the Panel to have a clear idea of what will happen if the grant is awarded. Use the 5W’s – This question is weighted

  10. Key Points - Planning is everything; before you begin the application, plan your project! Use the 5 W’s. • Who • What • Why • Where • When

  11. Example Who: Is your project for, who are the beneficiaries e.g. Kurdish & Turkish speaking Minority ethnic older people living in 2 wards of Hackney. What:Activities you will be delivering • e.g. Older people receive, one visit from a befriending volunteer a week • Hold weekly lunch club for at least 30 beneficiaries • 20 beneficiaries attend weekly exercise and computing classes • Recruitment, training and development of 15 volunteers, speaking a relevant additional language • Hold 4 cultural awareness workshops for service providers

Example Why: is there a need for your project, what needs will you be addressing e.g. Minority ethnic older people in the borough need more accessible, local and affordable daytime opportunities for social integration to address problems of isolation. Where: Be specific about where your project will be delivered e.g. We will deliver the sessions from the Kingfisher Estate Community Centre E8 and will also deliver outreach surgeries at various Community Centres in N16 and E5 When: Be specific about the timeframe for your project and realistic about the time it will take you to realistically deliver your project. ! Remember that your project should ONLY begin when the grant has been successfully awarded.

Evidence of need Why is it important? • Who have you consulted about this work • Evidence from previous projects you have run • How will this build on previous work done • How does your work meet the identified need in (Hackney's Sustainable Community Strategy Key point - Your application will be strengthened if you can refer to research either by you or other agencies such as the Council or University

  15. Evidence of need The panel will expect to see clear evidence that the project is needed by the potential users. Use up to date figures or quotes to demonstrate need. A high scoring answer will be one that clearly shows reference to evidence and research that there is a need for the service. Examples or sources of evidence could be; • Evidence from the Census. • Evidence from research carried out by the Local Authority, Central Government or other agencies. Hackney CVS website has links to several pieces of research that relate to the voluntary sector. • Evidence from your own monitoring and evaluation of the needs of your users. • Evidence from the Local Area Agreement and the goals it has set. • Evidence that this work does not replicate that carried out by other organisations. They may be doing the same work, but you should be able to show that the need exceeds what is already being provided. • Evidence you have collected from previous projects

  17. Monitoring and Evaluation Monitoring: What is the method you will use to collect information on a regular basis? Key point –Feedback forms, number of people attending, attitudes, Evaluation: What method will you use to find out if you are making a difference? Key point –What needs to change to suit beneficiaries I.e. time, access, delivery format.

Project Input – Staff and volunteers Staffing/Volunteers management and project management: describe who will deliver this project Key point - Provide Job Descriptions, skills or qualifications required of staff and volunteers (Think C.V, line of management) Who will manage your staff and volunteers and how will management be undertaken? Key point - Cover management as well as staff development and training If the project is being delivered in partnership with one or more organisation/s Key point –Partnership Agreement and Consortia Service Level agreement in place (template available)

  19. Discuss how many of your projects fit the Sustainable Community Strategy outcomes? Which projects work well together? Can you evidence the change created as a result of your activities? What is the unit cost? Is the project - good value for money high cost Right Project Key Questions for you?

Outputs are all the detailed activities, services and products your organisation actually does or provides, eg: 1:1 support sessions Training publications Outcomesare all the changes, benefits, learning or other effects that happen as a result of your activities, eg: User gets temporary accommodation Increased ability to budget User’s confidence increased User gets paid work Understanding Output, Outcomes and Outcomes Indicators

  21. What outcomes will your project achieve? Are Outcomes a headache to you? Outcome describe the changes after after your intervention. Outcome for individuals are always related to one of these areas. We call it BACK H ; Behaviour Attitude & Self-Perception Circumstance Knowledge& skills Health Key point –A high scoring answer willclearly be able to demonstrate what outcomes will be achieved, how they will be recorded and the change they represent in beneficiaries

Examples of Outcomes • Reduced isolation of minority ethnic older people as a result of accessing a range of social activities • Increasedability of Project volunteers who gain confidence to take new training, educational or employment opportunities • Improved employability skills amongst People with disabilities
