  1. L.O: To find out what we mean by ‘view’ and to frame your own views with reasons What do we mean by ‘a view’? A view is something that we look at, usually for enjoyment. It often involves the landscape, and guides your focus to something or somewhere in particular. Windows are often put in to ‘frame’ views, or gardens planned around window views and sight lines.

Using your digital cameras, capture a view that has been framed by a window in Forty Hall of… A tree A Lake An entrance A roof The gardens A room 25 mins

Can you find three different portraits in Forty Hall? Think of an adjective or describing word to describe each, and try to sketch some or all of the frame. Notice different styles of frame from different times in history. Why do you think that the portraits often have quite fancy or carefully chosen frames? 25 mins

You can create a simple viewfinder with just your hands, but you can also use the cut-out card frame on the next slide and the tips on it to help you plan your photograph. If you have a camera, take your own photograph after considering and choosing and considering your view carefully. Why have you chosen your view Discuss with your group.

  6. Is the main thing you are photographing in the centre or at the side? Are there people in your view or not? Why? Is your photograph going to be simple or crowded? Do you like the colours that are in your view? Is it light or dark?
