  1. RAID [RAID] ? Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks orRedundant Array of Independent Disks [RAID] To use RAID function, you have to select LEVEL from “RAID SETUP”. !!! Install min. 2HDDs to 3HDDs more according to RAID LEVEL. !!! Must use same brand & model of HDD, Size for setup of RAID. !!! Error shall be occurred in case using different brand & model of HDD, Size for setup of RAID. 0

  2. RAID [RAID] Warning windows before starts. Select “v” means for Yes, it will start Rebooting for setup RAID. (It takes long time for Rebooting and Formatting at the same time for setup RAID) !!! Once setup RAID, the previous all DATA will be erased(HDD Format). !!! Make it sure that you backup the saved Data before setup RAID. Once setup RAID, it changes TYPE(RAID) , recognizes 1 HDD. Supportable RAID LEVEL is 0, 1, 5. Refer to detail contents on next pages. 1

  3. RAID 0 Refer to setup the previous pages how to setup. !!! Once setup RAID, the previous DATA will be all formatted. Takes about 5 minutes to booting for building RAID LEVEL 0 . In case there is no error, displays RAID STATUS [GOOD]. [RAID 0] It has stripe. But, it does not overlap DATA. It separately saves DATA in several DISKs at the same time, it is good at efficiency for input and output. Therefore, it can expect the highest efficiency. But, it is difficult to be “true RAID” because there will be no recovery ability in case of losing all DATA in Array if there is damaged HDD. Min.HDD quantity : 2 EA Max. capacity : Disk quantity x Disk capacity Remarks : It is appropriated when it requires quick input-output and no need recovery ability. 2

  4. RAID 1 Refer to the previous pages for setup. !!! Once setup RAID, the previous DATA will be formatted. Taking time is different according to HDD size for building RAID LEVEL 1. (It takes about 24 hours when use 2pcs of 1TB HDD.) See building RATE and STATUS. [RAID 1] Mirroring function, it can get min. two overlapped saved HDDs. If there is no stripe, each drive can read at the same time and its reading ability can be improved. The written function is exactly the same with only one disk. RAID-1 gives the best performance and damaged prevented ability. MaxHDD quantity : 2 EA Max capacity : (HDD quantity/ 2) x HDD capacity Remarks: It uses in case of quick saving speed and DATA recovery ability. It is appropriated for small system because it can build only 2HDDs. 3

  5. RAID 5 Refer to the previous pages for setup. !!! Once setup RAID, the previous DATA will be formatted. Taking time is different according to HDD size for building RAID LEVEL 5. (It takes about 24 hours when use 3pcs of 1TB HDD.) See building RATE and STATUS. [RAID 5] Data Recovery. When there are Parity in the same level block, it saves and checks on reading. It includes revolving Parity Array. It addresses the written limitation in RAID-4. Therefore, it can overlap all writing/reading. RAID-5 saves information. But, it does not overlap the DATA(But, it can re-organize DATA for Parity information). RAID-5 requires normally 3 EA to 5 EA HDD by array. RAID-5 is not important for function. But, it is appropriated for multi user system that there is not much writing job.   6. How to check-up whether RAID setup is done properly (All the same while building , after completing building) Checkup --RAID 0 -. Proceed RAID with the same HDD more than 2 EA -. Proceed format by rebooting once selects RAID 0 -. Check Disk quantity and capacity on Main menu after completing Booting -. Displays disk quantity 1 EA and displays total capacity. It means working all right. Checkup --RAID 1 -. Proceed RAID after installed 2 same HDDs -. After select RAID 1, it formats after Rebooting -. After completing Booting, check Disk quantity and capacity on Main menu -. Displays Disk quantity 1 EA and displays total capacity ½ -. In case removing 1 HDD, there will be no problem for DVR recording/ playing. It means working all right. (At this time, RAID menu displays 1HDD Fail) Checkup --RAID 5 -. Proceed RAID with the same HDD more than 3EA -. After select RAID 1, it formats after Rebooting -. After completing Booting, check Disk quantity and capacity on Main menu -. Displays Disk quantity 1 EA and displays total capacity normal. -. In case removing 1 HDD, there will be no problem for DVR recording/ playing. It means working all right. (At this time, RAID menu displays 1HDD Fail) How to remove HDD for check-up -. Remove SATA Cable ONLY while RAID status -. It may be high risk for HDD damage if removes Power cable 5
