  10. Fact #8 When is “today” not “today”? An imaginary line on the Earth's surface, 180° from Greenwich. As the Earth rotates, each day first begins and ends on the line. A traveler going east over the line sets their calendar back one day, and going west adds on day.

  12. Fact #10 Bet you didn’t know AM = Ante Meridiem, in 12-hour clock notation, Latin for "before noon" PM = Post Meridiem (p.m., "after noon") 1.      Use time zones in the United States or the International Date Line to interpret a map or representation of a globe and calculate current times in different places  (G-1A-M2) http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Central/d/-6/java

  13. Fact #11 Universal Time The world is divided up into about 24 time zones. Standard time within most time zones is an integral number of hours offset from a time scale called Coordinated Universal Time (abbreviated UTC), maintained by a large number of very precise “atomic clocks” at laboratories around the world, including the U.S. Naval Observatory.
