Oscar

Oscar. Reference tool. The personal statement. The most important page you have ever written. Think about. Why is there a personal statement? Why is it part of the UCAS process? What will the universities do with it? How is writing a PS relevant to me if I am not applying for UCAS.

  5. SOWHAT? • You did work experience? • You read a book? • You have a part time job? • You volunteer in the community? • So what…? • Tell the reader why they should care about these things

  10. Improving the personal statement • Okay, so I’ve got some good content • I needs editing now – it sounds a bit like I’m describing my shopping list • Read it aloud to the mirror. Or the cat. • Make changes • When it sounds more like continuous prose, try reading it to a friend, teacher or parent • But get them to listen properly – you are trying to make it sound fluent, so they need to let you finish, make notes and give feedback at the end instead of interrupting your flow every time they have a comment.

  11. Getting feedback on my application • Via Oscar • Take a print out to your form tutor – UCAS has a print view that you can select and print
