  1. Senate Resolution 1101 Calling for the creation of an Academic Student Organization Endowment

  2. Background Budget cuts are affecting students, faculty, campus programs, colleges and student organizations. The University of Texas is home to Academic Student Organizations and Academic Projects that allow students to pursue personal passions and benefit UT The Student-Endowed Centennial Lectureship is supported by optional $2 fees. Student Government has an endowment, that provides an additional source of revenue.

  3. Purpose To fulfill the Senate of College Councils mission of providing support and representation to the Academic affairs of students at the University of Texas. To provide a source of constantly increasing funding, that is not subject to budget cuts. To enhance the quality of Academic Student Organizations’ on campus

  4. Summary The Student Organization Endowment will provide resources to Senate, College Councils and academic student organizations such as Model UN, Mock Trial, Moot Court, Robotics, etc. Contributions to the endowment will be completely optional. The Endowment will provide perpetual funding.

  5. Whereas Summary Colleges cite Extra-Curricular activities as factors in admissions Student Organizations provide opportunities to students Students involved on campus have been found to have higher GPA’s, graduation rates and retention rates. The Commission of 125 urges for extending educational opportunities, increased publicity, additional leadership opportunities and student participation, and collaboration amongst programs.

Resolved/Summary Create the Student Organization Endowment (SOE) to be appropriated through the Student Organization Endowment Appropriation Committee (SOEAC) Calls for the Student Services Budget Committee to add a $4 optional fee and appropriate funds to the SOE Calls for an increase of $2 to register/establish a student organization on campus and appropriate to SOE Requires Student Organizations that receive funds be: in good standing, Academic and Not Greek. Calls for the Senate of College Councils to establish the SOEAC and applications
