  1. Welcome BACK! 2012-2013 Elementary Autism Point Person Training Sabrina Beaudry & Pam Leonard 8-29-12

  2. Goals for today • Summer committee work • Action plans for the school year • Topics for the next three meetings • Co-Morbidity

  3. TA Committee Summer 2012 • Jen • Lindsey • Lynette • Paula • Sarah

  4. Goals of the committee • Develop a sequence of training for TA’s that can be consistent across schools and encompass the following topics: • Foundations of Autism • Collaboration and why it is important • Instructional Methodologies • Positive Behavior Programming • Supports • Provide each school a set of power points and related resources to use

  5. You and your principal • Principals have been made aware that a training sequence has been developed and resources provided for each building • Hopefully you all had a chance to introduce this idea at a faculty meeting that first day back to work

  6. What this training means for you • Remember TA training is everyone’s responsibility • You have developed more expertise in the area of autism but there are others in the building that have expertise too • Let’s talk about ways TA training can look in your buildings and how you can seek the help of others

  7. Action plans • By the end of the 2011-2012 school year, each school had an action plan developed. • There were Four Major Goal Areas: • Peer Training • TA /Support Staff Training • Certified Staff Training • Building more supports throughout the building/Coordination with CHAMPS

  8. Let’s break into groups by Goal Areas • Talk about plans for what you will be doing • Be able to report out first steps for your building

  9. Topics for the year • We are going to start with Co-Morbidity for this session • We have three more meetings- what should our topics be ?

  10. Co-morbidity • Let’s hear from an expert: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OznwVPSBpY4 • Her definition of Differential Diagnosis and Co- Morbidity • Why it is important to identify co-morbid conditions • What are challenges of determining co-morbidity • When do you consider co-morbidity

  11. Let’s Think About The Diagnosis Process

  12. Let’s Think About What We Do

  13. Is Sally Ozonoff’s chart something we can use? MEET CRITERIA FOR ASD: Social Communication Repetitive Behaviors Yes No Symptoms outside of ASD Presenting symptoms accounted for by another diagnosis or Change from baseline or Poor treatment response Yes No Yes No Other diagnosis No diagnosis Co-Morbid ASD alone

  14. So how can we use this? • If we have to determine eligibility for the first time • If we are conducting a re-eval to change eligibility • If we are questioning co-morbidity • Where does your role for your building fit into this • Where does CDIT’s role fit into this
