Facts • There are more than 100 types of cancers. • Almost 1 in 5 teens had thought about suicide. • One organ donor can save up to eight lives. • More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. • Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths a year.

The Nettles Foundation • The Nettle’s Foundation is family owned and operated in Schuylkill Haven, PA. • It was founded in August of 2011. • Donald Nettles was diagnosed with Leukemia in March of 2007. • He was motivated to open this foundation after his brother’s death on August 6th, 2011 • The foundation helps cancer patients, suicide prevention and gets blood/organ donations for people in need of transfusions

  4. Why? • Personally knew Jonathan Nettles

  5. Jonathan Nettles • Jonathan was just like any other young boy. • He loved sports and played: • Soccer • Track • Wrestling • Competition cheer • He had many friends. • He was always there to help others.

  6. The Event • July 14th, 2012 • 6pm to 8pm • $10.00 per ticket • Includes: • Two hours unlimited bowling • Shoe rental • Food discounts *five dollars of every ticket sold was donated to the Nettles Foundation

  7. Raffle • We made 19 different baskets • Five Tickets for $3. • Arm length (15) for $5 • Every 15 minutes we raffled a basket

  14. Money Baked goods/Raffle Bowling Tickets Grand Total! Since we sold 38 tickets, five dollars of every ticket sold was donated to the Nettles Foundation and the other half was given to Strike Zone. After calculations, we earned $190.00 from tickets and we able to give the Nettles Foundation a grand total of $425.00

  15. Obstacles • Ashley was gone from June 3rd to July 10th • A lot of work, work, work!!! • Strike Zone would not cooperate • We called many times to try and get a hold of them

  16. What we learned • How to plan an important event. • Takes time • Patience • Makes you realize you can do something and make a difference • Everyone enjoyed themselves at the event • The organization was very thankful • How a community comes together for a great cause!
