  1. The ADDIE Model analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation Presentation by Joe Vasquez

  2. Theaddiemodelin brief The ADDIE Model is a systematic process that Instructional Designers use to create instructional and educational materials.

  3. Historical Overview Florida State University originally defined the ADDIE process for the military services of the United States. The modeling of military training processes defined five unique phases: analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate. Branson, Rayner, Cox, Furman, King, & Hannum, (1975).

  4. The Analysis Phase Pre-planning Instructional problems are determined and learning objectives are clarified. • Identifies the learning environment • Clarifies the learner's current understanding and expertise • Instructional strategies are determined ADDIE Model, (n.d.).

  5. The Design phase the specifics Learning objectives decided upon are written and form the basis for the instruction. • Assessment instruments and • practice materials are designed • Subject matter is analyzed and • content is created • Lesson planning and media selection is done ADDIE Model, (n.d.).

  6. Development phasetraining materials Student and teacher material developed on paper in prior steps is now created and organized. • Training documents and • working programs • Storyboards and graphics • Visual and audio aids • Prototypes of technologies ADDIE Model, (n.d.).

  7. Development phase(continued) Once the training materials are developed: They are edited and revised for errors and grammar Feedback is provided and revision begins again ADDIE Model, (n.d.).

  8. Implementation phaseteaching Begins The work of all prior steps is realized and trainers conduct the designed instruction. • Method of delivery is applied by teaching the course • Observe the students during the course and test for learned outcomes • Request feedback • ADDIE Model, (n.d.).

  9. Evaluation phaseWhat have we learned? Instructional Designers review the course with a critical eye. Did the students achieve the learning objectives? What have you learned about the effectiveness of the training? How can you make the course better? • Formative Assessment • Summative Assessment What is Instructional Design? (n.d.).

  11. A revised representation of ADDIE • Graphic from • http://teacherrogers.wordpress.com/2011/10/08/instructional-design-development-model-for-an-online-course/ “Over the years, practitioners revised the steps, and eventually the model became more dynamic and interactive than the original hierarchical version” – Addie Model (n.d.)

  12. The future of the addie modelLooks Bright The ADDIE process is not restricted by any specific learning theory. • It forms a framework for designing instruction. “It is an Instructional Design model that has withstood the test of time and use.” What is Instructional Design?, (n.d.).
