Postgraduate Programme Codes • Telecoms(GCTCc, GTCc, MTCc) • Electronic Systems(GCESc, GDEc, MENc) • Majors • Nanoelectronics & Photonics • Image Processing & Analysis • Network Implementation NOTE: The last ‘c’ in each code indicates a ‘continuous’ programme. There is no Year 1, Year 2 structure, etc.

  5. Choosing Your Modules See the ‘Programme Planner’ for 2007/08 (next slide). IMPORTANT NOTES: • Electronic Systems Students can choose ANY 8 modules. • Telecoms students MUST take at least 6 modules from the ‘telecoms’ module set (in red below) plus ANY other two modules.   9. Credits & Weightings • All taught modules are worth 7.5 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System). • The PROJECT is worth 30 credits. • All taught modules are weighted 100. • The PROJECT is weighted 350.

Registration • Electronic Systems Programmes • Telecommunications Programmes • Register for modules forthe current academic year only – in this case Semesters 1 and 2 of 2007/08 • Late registration until Friday 28th September – no extra charge • Late registration until 26th October - €125 late fee • After 28th October – No registration allowed • YOUR responsibility! (Check Portal Page).

Module Changes • To Change modules - Complete ‘Change of Module Choice Form’ R37 www.dcu.ie/registry/forms/pdfs/R37_Module.pdf) • Can change modules 1st – 5th October – online, no extra charge • Can change modules 8th – 12th October - €60 fee to Registry • To de-register from a module, complete form R-37. • YOUR responsibility!

  13. Fees • The onus is on you to arrange fee payment. • E.U. students on Masters/Grad. Dip. are supported under H.E.A.’s ‘Graduate Skills Conversion Programme’ • Part-time students funded for 2 years • Full-time students funded for 1 year • Non-E.U. students should contact Finance Office regarding fees. • Certificate students not eligible for reduced fees Finance Office - 9:30 – 12:30 and 14:30 to 16:30.   15. TransferGraduate Diploma to Masters Students on the Grad Dip who obtain one of the following will be given the option to transfer to the MASTERS 1. anaverage of 55% in the first 4 modules taken and passed at FIRST ATTEMPT 2. anaverage of 55% in ANY 6 modules they pass at FIRST ATTEMPT

Transfer Cert to Diploma • Cert students may transfer to the Graduate Diploma having successfully completed 4 modules. • Students MAY be required to attend an interview. *EU Cert students are not eligible for reduced fees* You can only receive one award (Cert. or Dip. or MEng.) Students can also transfer between Programmes at the same level, depending on modules taken.

  17. Examinations • Semester 1: Mon 14 Jan - Fri 25 Jan. No Autumn Repeats on these Programmes – if you fail, you can register as a Repeat Student and retake it at next sitting Exam timetable (Exams Office) – displayed on student portal pages and DCU site 4-6 weeks prior to exams. Deferrals and Absences • To defer an entire academic year, complete a ‘Deferral of Academic Year’ (R-32) form (www.dcu.ie/registry/forms/pdfs/R32_Defacadem.pdf) • Unexplained absences from exams result in a FAILED ATTEMPT. Therefore: - Ensure you’re registered correctly - If absent, complete the appropriate form. • For relevant forms, see http://www.dcu.ie/registry/application_forms.shtml • Visit the Registry site at www.dcu.ie/registry/for more information

The Project • Projects are allocated ONCE a year, at the beginning of February(for students submitting a project in the following August and January ONLY) • Allocation based on aggregate marks if two students select the same project • Students can choose their own topic • Projects are submitted in EITHER January or August – if a submission date is deferred, you will be expected to submit at the NEXT submission opportunity
