  2. Were cocoa beans come from: • Cocoa comes from the word ‘Cacoa’ which is a tree originally from America. • They grow in pods which are attached to the trunk or on high large branches.

  3. Cacoa trees grow in hot, rainy tropical areas like The Ivory Coast in Africa, South America, and Indonesia. The Ivory Coast grows the most cocoa in the world every year. Switzerland eats the most chocolate in the world every year. Ivory Coast flag

  4. When the pods are ripe they are usually green, red, purple and then orange. When it is time to harvest them, they are cut off the trunk or the tree branch using a curved knife on a long pole.

  5. They then use a big machete knife to open the fruit and take out the cocoa seeds. Each pod has got approximately 20-50 seeds inside. The seeds are then sent off to be dried for up to 14 days. They dry them by spreading them onto large surfaces and raking them in huge trays under the sun or huge heaters.

  6. Cocoa beans once dried out are brown/black in colour. They are sent to a factory were they can be used for lots of things, two things they can do is separate them into cocoa powder and cocoa paste using a large pressing machine. Cocoa butter is used in chocolate bars we eat and also things like sweets and even some soaps!

  7. The End Result So after growing from a seed on a tree in a hot country it is harvested, dried out, pressed in a machine, cooked and the end result is this... Chocolate tastes good but is very fattening, so if your not careful and eat to much this is what will happen..........

  8. Don’t Give Chocolate To Your Pets ! • Why don’t we give chocolate to our pets ? • Chocolate isn’t good for everyone in particular animals, If you give them large amounts, their is a certain chemical found in chocolate which can be poisonous to animals such as dogs, cats (especially kittens),Parrots, small rodents, and horses because they are unable to digest this chemical like us humans can. So give them their animal treat and keep the chocolate all for you!
