Exam types Formal Aspects (1/3) For courses of 2 hrs/wk : • Written examination (90 -120 min) • Oral examination (20 – 30 min) • Presentation (15 min) plus academic paper (5-7 pages) • Presentation (15 min) plus oral examination (15 min) • Academic papers (10 – 12 pages) Further details: • 1 academic paper (20 – 25 pages) in Business Administration possible (+ 2 ECTS) • Group work possible if contribution traceable • Combination of exam types possible if course exceeds 2 hrs/wk • Type of exam to be defined at start of semester by decision board • Courses originating from other master programs apply the exam type decided by the respective program • Hand-in-date of papers: last day of semester (2 x print, 1 x electr.) Exam types Formal Aspects (3/3) Grading scheme: • 1.0 (best) via 4.0 (pass) to 5.0 (non-pass) • Stepping: +/- 0.3 (1.0, 1.3, 1.7, 2.0 … 4.0) Failing examinations: • Courses are failed if graded 5.0: • In case of poor performance (usually less than 50 %) • In case of cheating • In case students miss an exam they are registered for without providing a qualified doctoral attestation • 2 repetitions possible • No exam may be repeated if graded better than 4.0 • Repetition is voluntary but registration for repetition (for 2nd attempt) takes place automatically • Compulsory courses must be passed successfully! Study Abroad Selection of Study Abroad Program • First option: partner universities via “Internationales Büro” • Second option: partner universities via “MiBA” at ECUST (China) or FINEC (Russia) • Third option: Free Mover (Attention: confirm possibility of accreditation at UHH prior to further planning!) • Please note that particularly scholarship institutions may require very timely applications (for study abroad as well as for internships abroad)! Study Abroad Proceeding (2/2) Learning Agreement: • Before start of a study abroad period a learning agreement (including course, credits granted, assignment to MiBA modules) must be signed (Häckel) • Accountability/responsibility of planning with student only • Application for accreditation of study abroad results to the attention of the Decision Board (Krohn) Criteria • Contribution to completion of study objectives • At least as many credits as in semester 3 at MiBA (approximately 30 ECTS/Semester) • No courses with identical content 2 Semesters abroad • 12 ECTS of internship (no grade) are replaced by 12 ECTS from additional courses passed abroad(with grade) • Thesis may be written abroad (at a partner university) but requires involvement of a MiBA lecturer, to be made sure with host university and MiBA examiner beforehand Curriculum Exam Types Study Abroad Decision Board Miscellaneous OE WiSe 2008/09 22
