  1. Welcome! MMSD Science Research Internship Program Orientation & Introduction to UW-Madison

  2. Welcome to the University of Wisconsin – Madison This orientation will provide you with an introduction to UW-Madison. Through this orientation you will become more familiar with the enrollment process, important dates and deadlines, and campus resources. You will be required to complete a short quiz about the content of the orientation. While the quiz contains only a few questions, you are responsible for knowing all of the information presented. Upon successful completion of the quiz, I will clear you to enroll. Instructions for taking the quiz can be found later in this PowerPoint show. Adult Career and Special Student Services is your dean's office while you are enrolled as a University Special student. Your advisor is Moira Kelley and she can be reached at mkelley@dcs.wisc.edu or (608)263-7136. Thank you and enjoy your introduction to the UW!

  4. University Special Student Status

  5. Special student defined • Non-degree student status. • Enroll on a space available basis after all degree seeking students. • Cannot continue as a Special student once you graduate from high school. • Can’t be a special student if you are denied undergrad admission or apply too late

  6. Special Minimum GPA of 3.000 required Undergraduate Following are the general qualifications of admitted freshmen. These figures are not cutoffs. They are the middle 50% range, so 25% of admitted students fall below the range and 25% place above it. Class Rank 86–96th percentile GPA* 3.5–3.9 ACT 26–30 SAT 1770–2010 *Unweighted, academic GPA From Freshman Admission Expectations 2008-09 Unique Admission ProcessUndergrad vs. Special student admission

  7. Admission as a Special student does not improve your chances of getting admitted as an undergraduate.

  8. Grades as Special student • The grade you receive in your class this summer will appear on your official UW-Madison transcript • Outcomes of classes taken as a Special student can negatively affect college admissions • Generally students do quite well in UW courses but there are occasional D’s & F’s

  9. UW-Madison Record • Establishing a permanent UW-Madison record • Any college to which you apply will require you to submit your UW-Madison transcript • Not taking your UW-Madison course seriously will have permanent negative consequences!
