  1. How CIS Has Made A Difference In My Life Maurice Barfield

  2. My Goals My Graduation Coach helps me to think about how to improve in academics . My coach teaches me about study skills to help me prepare for tests . One of my goals is to improve my CRCT Reading and Math scores to meet or exceeds standards. We took an oath saying that we will do our best to exceed this year.

  3. Someone Beside Me CIS has provided someone that will talk to teachers when I feel I can’t. My coach talked to my math teacher about getting me switched to another class where I’m more comfortable and can focus better. My coach helps me in other areas – not just academics. She talked to one my teachers about sponsoring me for an activity when I didn’t have the money. My coach told my mom where to go to get a physical so that I could try out for basketball.

  4. Grades • The Graduation Program monitors my grades to make sure I’m passing in all my classes. • My coach visits my classroom to make sure I’m on track and completing my assignments. • This program helps me to monitor my own grades by making sure I keep a log of all my grades. • My coach is always happy when I do well, she gives me treats and incentives for getting good grades.

  5. Career Workshop Career workshops: I participated in a career workshop and found out how finding a career that matches your interests, abilities, and values is important. Personality Assessment : My personality assessment showed that I am a social person and would do well in jobs in a social environment. We will have the opportunity to go on job shadowing trips to see how certain jobs are done.

  6. Mentoring Group • I was selected to participate in a male mentoring group (YMP – Young Men With Purpose) to help me focus on my life’s goals. • One of the things I remember most about the session is how I should keep my name clean and stay out of trouble. • We are going to go on field trips and will have guest speakers and activities to help us find out more about ourselves

  7. College Tours • CIS allows me to participate in college tours. Seeing different colleges is fun and makes me want to do my best to prepare for college so that I can go to college when I graduate. • I am interested in medicine, so I have signed up to go on the Morehouse School of Medicine College Tour. • The Graduation Coach has planned other college tours that I would like to participate in.

  8. Parents • The Graduation Coach has meetings to let my mother know how I am doing, and how to help me in school.

  9. Home • CIS really helped me and my family when we needed it most! • CIS helped my family to get our gas service back on in our house. I could not do homework or projects. We could not eat at home because our stove was gas. I told my Graduation Coach and she talked to my teachers about my assignments, and helped us to get our gas back on. I really appreciated that!
