  3. Imagine This Is The First Day of Your Internship Tip: Save your work by holding down CTRL and pressing S (CTRL + S). Select Desktop. Change name file. Click “save.” Tip: To undo something (mistake), hold down CTRL and press Z (CTRL + Z).
  4. What Are First Questions That Come to Mind How long does the activity last? How long, how frequent… What resources do we have to use? Weights, materials… Who is it for? Age group, women with children… How much space do we have to use? Are there special needs or considerations for some of the women? Is there incentive for people to participate?
  5. What Ideas Come To Your Mind? Exercise, like Zumba Job search Crafts, like laminated ID holders Self help, like meditation or relaxation Motivational speaking and positive thinking Weight loss health challenge, trying different exercises Places we can go after class, like public library
  6. What Steps Would You Take? Do research. How much does it cost? How many women are interested. Know where each person is right now, and where they want to get to. Advertising to people, so that they sign up. Demonstrate that you have a plan and that you have experience. Create portfolio or presentation. Create a storyboard for visual effect. How you would execute it. Timeline to launch.

  9. Instructions for Copying & Pasting Insert new slide in Powerpoint Go to the document you want to copy from Highlight the section you want to copy (1. Click on the beginning of the section with the left button of the mouse. 2. Hold down left button of the mouse. 3. Move the mouse to the end of the section. 4. The entire section should be highlighted). Copy the section (by pressing CTRL + C) Now, open up the Powerpoint slide and paste the section (by pressing CTRL + V) Now, save the Powerpoint (by pressing CTRL + S)

  12. Life Class Activity (presented by Debra) Suggestion from Yvonne: Contact Recovery Café. They have free yoga classes from 10:00 – 11:15 am every day, and you can become yoga instructor with 200 hours of training. Suggestion from Yvonne: Yoga mats are available from either YMCA or YWCA. Talk to Mary’s Place front desk.

South Seattle Community College 
  14. Employment Class (presented by Francoise) Concern raised by Marie: Do we have to be registered students of South Seattle Community College to use their services? Answer: yes Concern raised by Francoise: South Seattle is too far away from Mary’s Place. Seattle Public Library may be better because it is closer and more accessible. Suggestion from Feben: Look into Central Seattle Community College. It’s closer than South Seattle.
  15. Criteria for Selecting Locations Proximity to Mary’s Place (within walking distance, within one bus ride, etc) How much does it cost? (free is ideal) When is it available? (Is it available within the hours that Mary’s Place is open?) How accessible is it? Can children be admitted or accompany the adults? Does it accommodate older adults? Are there additional resources we need to bring to the class (like exercise equipment, gym clothes,…) What is capacity of location or class? How many people can participate? Are there prerequisites? If it is a class, do you need certain skills or have taken classes ahead of time?

  17. Fitness Class (presented by Yvonne) Do we want to just invite current Mary’s Place members, or do we want to invite lower income elderly residents nearby? Mary’s Place will have to consider capacity, and see if it can accept additional members Advertising/ flyers/ word-of-mouth/ street advertising/ bulletin boards of other organizations Other nearby shelters (especially women’s shelters). Ask the nearby shelters ahead of time if you can present. Get listed on websites and reports. Maybe offer different classes for each age group

  19. Life Skills Class (presented by Feben) Want to do assessments. Before and after. Goals. What are they looking to gain. Targeting based on certain activities people are interested in. Some may want to do just one activity. Offer different classes based on level or commitment.
