  2. An overview Stories and narratives allow us to make sense of things- it has becomes our reasoning. A lot of what we’ve learned and continue to learn come from stories. It’s an important part of communication. -Fairytales -Religion -Pop culture-plays, films, art, dance -Dreams -Newspapers We have basic expectations of films. We anticipate an opening to give us information about who, what and where. There to be characters who interact with each other. To see a series of incidents, which are connected with each other. Problems and/or conflicts. The ending to resolve the action. As humans we try to “connect the dots” by picking up cues, recalling information, anticipating the following scenes, and by actively participating in the film. We understand cause and effect.

  3. The director can create a mood or atmosphere by choosing certain shots in a certain order, to build a picture in our minds. We automatically link what is happening in one shot with what happens in the others. Lev Kuleshov, Russian filmmaker in the 1920's experimented by showing people shots of an actor in between shots of different objects - food, a dead woman and a child. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUZCPPGeJ1c Sergei Eisenstein, another Russian filmmaker of the same era, believed that it was more effective if consecutive shots were not obviously linked as the audience were forced to think and interact more to make the mental jump from shot to shot. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0QAjpeosgU

  4. Alright, questions… How do stories relate to our everyday life, other examples? In your opinion, is storytelling an effective way of relaying information? Is it reliable?
