  1. Sec 9 - Solving for Exact Solutions with the Quadratic Formula • Homework: Pg 269 #1-9, 43 *EXACT answers unless there is a word problem where a decimal would make more sense.

  2. General Form of a Quadratic Equation • Quadratic Formula

  3. Ex 1: Field Hockey • A field hockey player makes a scoop that releases the ball with an upward velocity of 34 ft/sec. The function h = -16t² + 34t models the height of the ball after t seconds. When will the ball reach a height of 15 ft? • Think About It: Why would SADMEP not work in this situation?

  4. Ex 2: Solve and Give Exact Solutions • 2x² - 1 = 5x • 15x² + 2x + 1 = 0 Steps: Put in General Form (must equal 0) Substitute a, b and c into the Quadratic Formula and simplify. Break down the Radical Split into 2 Fractions (if needed) Reduce the fractions (if needed)

  5. Ex 3: Solutions with Complex Numbers

  6. Ex 4: SADMEP or QF How did you know when to use SADMEP and when to use the Quadratic Formula?

  7. HOMEWORK • Pg269 #1-9, 43 *EXACT answers unless there is a word problem where a decimal would make more sense.
