  1. Vikings Line of inquiry 2: Societies have unique features. Ben Best

  2. How has leadership in Scandinavia changed over time? • In Viking times, the leadership in Scandinavia was very different to the way it is now. One of the greatest ever Viking leaders was Cnut the Great, king of England and Denmark, and, after a decade of war and conflict with Scandinavian opponents, took the crown of Norway and the city of Sigtuna in Sweden. He was a member of the dynasty that was crucial to the Christianisation and unification of Denmark. • Scandinavia has a much different leadership/political system. The Norwegian, Danish and Swedish government type is constitutional monarchy - a governmental system where a monarch is guided by a constitution by means of which his/her rights, duties, and responsibilities are made clear in written law or by institution.

  3. Were the Vikings actions due to how they were lead? • The Vikings actions were only partly caused by there leadership. It is thought that the Vikings just followed there leaders violent examples. The reason why the Vikings expanded and took over other countries is unknown, but a lot of people believe that with their means of travel (longships) and their desire for goods led them to explore and try to find more countries to trade with. Historians also believe that the peninsula was overpopulated and that they set off in search of new land.

  4. How was the Vikings way of trading different to other societies? • The Vikings way of trading wasn’t exactly different to other countries, but it was more developed. The Vikings were the most successful and advanced traders of their time. They set up special trading villages in Scandinavia such as Birka, Ribe, Hedeby, and Skiringsal. They also founded Dublin, and in England they made York thrive as the most important trading town outside London. When trade routes from east to west through the Mediterranean were unsafe or closed, the Vikings kept trade going through the trade route from Byzantium to the west open via Kiev and Russia.

  5. That is the end of the 2nd line of inquiry. Thanks for watching and I hope you learned something. 
