  2. Objectives of the workshop To review the current English Language Arts curriculum and courses. To identify and classify types of courses. To review and agree the balance of courses that are needed for a new Language Arts curriculum that reflects international practice To identify and agree the courses for each year level of a new Language Arts curriculum

  3. Drafting Course ILOs for a new BA Education in English Language Arts (cont.) Working in University groups, Look at list of Course ILOs that you have been given. Which categories from Bloom’s Taxonomy do these course ILOs fit into? In what kind of courses might these ILOs be found?

  4. Drafting Course ILOs for a new BA Education in English Language Arts (cont.) With reference to the sample course outline from CCCU and Bloom’s Taxonomy, develop 4 - 6 draft ILOs for the Palestinian University course outline you have been given. Exchange with another group and evaluate the Course ILO statements against the characteristics of effective ILOs. Join with another group, share the ILOs and arrive at 4 – 6 agreed ILOs for the course Based on these ILOs write a description of an assessment task that would enable student teachers to demonstrate the ILO.

  5. Reviewing the current curriculum Examine the list of courses from An Najah. Group the courses into categories; e.g. English Language Teaching Methods, Literature, Language Development, Literature, etc. Sharing and feedback

  6. Reviewing the balance of courses Discuss Is the balance of different types of courses appropriate for a new BA Education in English Language Arts that reflects the vision of the Teacher Education Strategy for Palestine? What should the balance among the different types of courses be? Why? Consider first and foremost the needs of the students. What are these needs; e.g. Language development? Other needs.

  7. Reviewing the balance of courses Discuss In your groups, discuss and come up with a list of the courses that you think are needed to prepare a new generation of teachers of English for grades 5-10. Please consider… Should the focus of any existing course be adjusted? Should any new courses be added? What are they and why are they needed? Should any courses be deleted? What are they? And why may they not be appropriate for the new programme?
