  1. Rioja DOCa Crianza 2007 Spain Variety Area of Origin Terroir Vinification Tasting notes Foodpairing 85% Tempranillo, 15% Gernacha Rioja Alta Rioja Alta is situated on the west bank of the river Ebro, which is famous for its fine, elegant wines with lower alcohol content. There are well-known vineyards that occupy about 29,000 hectares, which for several centuries produce top wines. The most popular variety is Tempranillo, which occupies most of the Rioja. Rioja Alavesa is famous for its unique types of fruit wines. Rioja Baja is located on 25,000 hectares east of Logrono where the dark varieties are grown. The grapes for this wine were sourced from the winery´s own vineyards and a selected group of growers around Haro who have long-term exclusive contracts with the winery. The vineyards are on average 20 years old. There are long and cold winters, warm summers with colder nights and the average daily temperature here is around 11C. The soils here are very diverse. Harvest: mid-October. Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks. After destemming and gentle pressing the juice gets 6 days of maceration on the skins before fermentation for approximately 10 days at a maximum temperature of 28C. The wine is aged 14 months in barrels of American and French oak and at least 6 months in bottles. Cherry red color with brilliant purple rim. Aromas of mature red fruits with a core of spice and delicate liquorice hints. The wine is complex, well structured, fresh and fruity. A very versatile wine. A perfect match for Mediterranean cuisine such as fried fish or vegetable dishes, rice, pasta, pulses, red and white meats and even cheeses.
