Why does it matter? • Having a slow computer can greatly affect you on what you do. • Sometimes a slow computer can mean that your computer might have a virus. • Having low performances can easily crash your computer at random times. • For example if you were doing a project and your computer suddenly crashes. You will lose your data and all your hard work.

  3. Errors/Problems you receive. • Blue Screen Error – is an error that shows a blue screen with words on it. This happens when you don’t clean your registry or check your hardware. • Low fps – is what happens if you use a slow computer to play a game.

  4. Blue Screen Error • This happens when you have to manycorrupted files which causes your computer to crash. • You can fix it by doing daily check ups on your computer.

  5. Low fps • In games if you have a slow computer your Frames Per Second gets very low so you won’t be able to play properly. • You can get slow FPS by having a bad and outdated hardware like your RAM or you Graphics card. • You can fix this by upgrading your RAM and your Graphics Card.

Why does optimizing your computer matter? • Even computers with the powerful second and third generation i7 Gigahertz processing power and Gigabytes of RAM need to be optimized.  • If you use your computer on a daily basis, you may not realize that it is getting slower by the day.  • The computer registry gets cluttered with useless registry keys and the registry gets disorganized. • The computer hard drive also gets cluttered with useless files that can and will slow your PC if not properly optimized on a daily basis.

  10. Why does your computer slow down? • There are several reason why it slows down. • 1. Spyware / Virus • 2. The Registry • 3. Badly Fragmented Hard Drive • 4.Temporary Files • 5. Hardware Problems

Spyware / Virus • These are Malicious programs that stealthily embed themselves into your software. • You can get these by emails or downloading from sites that hosts premium applications for free. How do you remove it? • You can remove them by downloading a free anti-spyware which you can find online.

  12. Anti-Virus Programs • There are tons of anti-virus programs out there the most popular ones are: • Norton • Avast • Kaspersky • Microsoft Security Essentials • McAfee • Each one of the anti-virus are special in their own way to other people.

  13. What is a Anti-Virus? • Antivirus (or anti-virus) software is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. Such programs may also prevent and remove adware, spyware, and other forms of malware.

What is the best anti-virus. • Comparing to Norton and McAfee: • Norton has better real-time protection, spyware protection, e-mail virus protection and antivirus protection. • McAfee has the best user interface, and the easiest installation. Both programs were equal in resource usage, and customer support. • The prices are Norton is 39.99 and McAfee is 29.99 for a one-year subscription.

  15. Registry • The windows registry is the master control center for your operating system and the applications it runs. What happens to it? • Over the time the registry become corrupted which can greatly harm your computer if not checked. How can you fix it? • There are tons of cleaners which you can find online

  17. What is a registry cleaner? • A registry cleaner is a type of software utility designed for the Microsoft Windows operating system whose purpose is to remove redundant or unwanted items from the Windows registry.

  18. Badly Fragmented Hard Drive • Over time your files can be scattered around the hard drive which makes it harder to find the files. How to fix it? • Thisis a common problem for computers but you can easily fix it by going to My Computer, right click "C" drive, click properties, click tools and click defragment.

  20. Temporary Files • Your hard drive could be crammed with many useless files left over from re-installs, and just general use. How to fix it? • You can fix it by downloading a free disk cleaner or you can go to Start then "Run" then enter "cleanmgr.exe" without quotes. Select the "C" drive and click ok.

  22. Hardware Problems • There are assortments of things that can happen to your hardware: wear and tear, over heating and dust. How to fix it? • You can upgrade your RAMor You can fix it yourself by replacing the parts with new ones if you are experienced or you can call someone to fix it for you.

  23. Common Problems you can fix by upgrading • You can upgrade your RAM or You can upgrade your Graphics card to increase your computer speed.
