Corporate Journey • 1890: Asiatic Petroleum formed by Royal Dutch, Shell, Rothschild to market petroleum products in South Asia • 1928: Asiatic Petroleum & Burmah Oil formed Burmah-Shell Oil Storage and Distributing Company of India Limited. • 1932: Fuelled J.R.D. Tata’s historical flight from Karachi to Bombay • 1950: Introduced LPG as a cooking fuel to Indian homes • 1955: Mahul Refinery commissioned • 1976: Burmah Shell Group of Companies nationalized by the Government of India to form Bharat Refineries Limited (BRL) • 1977: BRL rechristened Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. • 1992: BPCL was listed on the Bombay stock Exchange • 1998: BPCL restructured into SBU set up for customer focus • 2004: BPCL figures in “Fortune 500” for the first time • 2006: KRL merged with BPCL
