Broad areas of priority for action • Secure solutions to the reprovision of those eleven libraries identified in Implementing the Hertfordshire vision for libraries in the 21st century • Finalise the programme for the five libraries identified for major internal and external refurbishment www.hertsdirect.org/property

  10. Significant actions for individual properties • Libraries identified as priorities for replacement: • Borehamwood, Cheshunt, Harpenden, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, North Watford, Oakmere, Sawbridgeworth, Stevenage Central, Ware www.hertsdirect.org/property

  11. Significant actions for individual properties • Refurbish: • Bushey, Oxhey, Tring, Watford Central and Welwyn Garden City libraries • Libraries yet to be identified may be closed due to rationalisation of the network www.hertsdirect.org/property

  12. Funding Issues • Libraries for the 21st Century identifies: • The replacement of 11 libraries at an approximate cost of £9 million • The refurbishment of 5 libraries at an approximate cost of £1 million • Investment of £427,000 in ICT www.hertsdirect.org/property

Summary & Conclusions • 47% of Hertfordshire libraries are either “Unfit for Purpose” or “Not Fit with the potential for economic improvement” • Libraries for the 21st Century articulates a vision to transform the library network to meet public expectation and government standards www.hertsdirect.org/property
