  1. Light Waves

  2. Electromagnetic Waves • There are lots and lots of different kinds of light waves (they are not just the light we see!!!) • Called electromagnetic waves • Have electric and magnetic properties

  3. Properties of Light Waves • Speed of a light wave will depend on what it is traveling through • Can travel fastest through empty space • Slows down in liquids and solids

  4. Intensity • Just like sound waves, the energy of a light wave will have an affect on intensity • Higher intensity= brighter

  5. Electromagnetic Spectrum • Light waves are separated into groups by their wavelength and frequency

  6. Visible Light • The light we see is called visible light • All colors that we see have different wavelengths and frequencies • Think about a rainbow: what order are the colors in???

  7. Visible Light • ROY G. BIV • Red has the longest wavelength • Violet has the shortest wavelength • Light is refracted through raindrops and separates out

  8. Visible Light • Why is a leaf green? • Why is an apple red? • It’s all because of reflection!!!
