  5. Emotional Appeals • Elicit an emotional response • Bandwagon • “Everyone’s doing it!” • Snob Appeal • “This is the best; and you must have it!” • Veiled Threat • “It seems harmless but…”

  6. Logical Appeals • Use facts, examples, and expert testimony. • Rational

  7. Ethical Appeals • Establish credibility • Show concern the for public or environment • Show longevity (i.e. how many years in business)

  8. When Evaluating… • What is the motivation behind the article/ad/essay, etc.? • How credible (or believable) is the information? • Does the author/creator use a lot of generalizations?
