  3. STAAR/EOC • For high school, STAAR/EOC assessments will be administered for the following core subjects: • English I (March 29) • English II (March 31) • Algebra I (May 4) • Biology (May 2) • U.S. History (May 3) **Student is not required to retake a course as a condition of retaking an EOC

  4. Non-Mastery of STAAR/EOC • Non-mastery of STAAR/EOC assessments will result in intervention or remediation classes. • For example: • Failure of 8th grade math STAAR  Algebra 1 block class • Failure of English 1 EOC  English remedial class • Failure of Biology EOC  Biology remedial class • Failure of Algebra 1 EOC Algebra remedial class

  5. Diploma Plans • A student entering Grade 9 in the 2014-2015 school year and thereafter shall enroll in the courses necessary to complete the curriculum requirements for the Foundation High School Program (22 credits) and the curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement (26 credits).

  8. What is an Endorsement? • Selecting an ENDORSEMENT is like choosing a MAJOR in college! It’s your career pathway into your field of interest. • There are 5 Endorsement Areas with each having several programs of study: • *Some students will graduate on the foundation plan without an endorsement under special circumstances pending committee meeting approval.*

  13. Selecting an Endorsement • Now is the time to get serious about selecting an endorsement! Consider…. • What are my child’s interests and future goals? • Where do my child’s elective credits fit within the endorsements and programs of study? • What classes does my child still need to take to meet the requirements of their chosen endorsement and program of study? More information on course descriptions and programs of study sequences can be found in the TM course catalog that your child will receive during orientation.

Distinguished Level of Achievement • A student may earn a distinguished level of achievement by completing the following: • Successfully completing the curriculum requirements for the Foundation High School Program • Earning at least one endorsement • Earning 4 credits in science and 4 credits in mathematics which must include Algebra 2 *Earning this recognition means your student is eligible for top ten percent automatic admission.*

Performance Acknowledgement • For outstanding performance: • Dual Credit (12 college hours/3.0 GPA) • Advanced Placement (AP) ( score 3 or above) • Exam Performance: • *PSAT (Commended or higher) • *SAT (CR+M score 1250) • *ACT (composite score of 28) • Business Industry Certification or License • * examples Certified Nursing Asst. Pharm Tech

  16. ADVANCED COURSES • Programs: • PAP – Pre- Advanced Placement • AP – Advanced Placement* College • DC – Dual Credit Curriculum • *College credit/placement upon meeting required exam score

AP vs. Dual Credit • Advanced Placement • Nationally recognized • College hours (depending on AP exam score) • Rigorous curricula • Tests are offered in the Spring • Dual Credit • Specific eligibility requirements • Hours are transferrable to most Texas public colleges and universities • 78 college hours offered • Depending on GPA, a student may take up to 4 classes per semester

College Exams, Jr./Sr. Year • PSAT/NMSQT: Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test • **Jr. year is the competition year** • ACT/SAT: Both widely accepted by colleges/universities • We encourage students to take both by the end of their junior year • TSI: Required by TX public colleges/universities • Used for placement, not admissions

  20. Texas Success Initiative: TSI • State-required college placement exam • Required by all public state campuses • Assesses student academic ability for college-level courses in reading, writing & math

National Honor Society (NHS) • Identification: • Junior or Senior Status • GPA of 90.0 or higher • Three weighted courses • (Taken or in progress) • Process/Timeline: • November: Qualified Jrs/Srs receive • identification letters and applications • December: Student applications due • Early January: Notification of • acceptance • Late January: NHS Induction • Ceremony To be accepted, students must show evidence of the following: Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Service
