  2. Are you requesting an FTE, RG/PF, RGF position, or Temporary or Student Employee? • FTE is a classified or unclassified, slotted position. This position has benefits and retirement. • RG/PF is a research grant/ practice funded position (K102 and K101). This has a 1 year appointment. This position may have benefits and retirement. • RGF is a research grant funded position. This has a 1 year appointment. This position may have benefits and retirement. • Temporary employment has a 1 year or less appointment. This position has NO benefits (eligible for retirement). Temporary employment could be staff (TEMP) or faculty (TFAC). • Student employment- Federal Work Study (FWS), Regular Student (REGS), and Graduate (GRADS). This position has NO benefits.

Steps to Creating a Requisition • What are the steps we go through to create a requisition? • Request new position and/or request to advertise existing vacant position • Receive notification of approval for position and/ or to advertise • Create PD and/or update existing PD • Receive notification PD has been established and to …. • Create Requisition • Requisition is Posted

  4. Request to Advertise New Position or Existing Vacant Position • The approval process begins with SOM Administration and to the Provost’s Office if applicable. • Requests must include: • The source of funding for the position • Desired classification and salary level of the position • Justification of why the position is needed

  5. When Requests Must be Approved by Provost • The following must be included: • Does your budget have sufficient recurring funds to cover both the salary and the benefits associated with the position? • For a faculty position, is it possible to fill the position at the instructor level or with an adjunct faculty member instead of a tenure track faculty member? • Will you be able to save funds by filling this position at a lower replacement salary? • Can the duties of this position be added to those of an existing faculty, staff or administrative member within your unit? • If this position is not approved, what part of your unit’s mission will not be accomplished.
