The Practice of Prayer. “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;” Colossians 4:2. Definition of Prayer. Prayer is a wish or desire in one’s heart to invoke the Heavenly Father for a fulfillment of that wish or desire through a simple request or even a begging.

  2. Definition of Prayer Prayer is a wish or desire in one’s heart to invoke the Heavenly Father for a fulfillment of that wish or desire through a simple request or even a begging.

  3. When should we Pray ? Having set times creates the habit of praying Dan. 6:10 “he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God…” Not limited to set times Important occasions – Luke 6:12-13 Trying circumstances – Acts 16:25 Spur of the moment - Neh. 2:4-5 Pray without ceasing

  4. With whom should we Pray ? In Secret Matt. 6:5-6 - closet = room With two or three Early Christians prayed together Trouble - Acts 12:5, 12 Departure – Acts 20:32, 21:5

  5. How should we Pray ? Jesus taught how to pray - Luke 11:1-4 “Lord’s prayer” or “Model prayer” To whom = Our Father in heaven Praising God = Hallowed be your name Supplication God’s = Your kingdom come Our = Give us our daily bread Spiritual = Forgive us our sins

  6. How should we Pray ? A C T S - Adoration - Confession - Thanksgiving - Supplication

  7. For what should we Pray ? • Self • Family • Community • Church 5. Nation 6. Nonbelievers 7. The sick 8. Poor and oppressed

  8. For what should we Pray ? Prayer Strategy Monday = Family Tuesday = Church Wednesday = Community Thursday = Nation Friday = World Saturday = Afflicted
