  7. Dear SS read the statements and then listen to the text while I read it. OK, Now identify true/ false statements. Give the correct information in case a statement is false.

  8. The statements are: 1. The Maghs migrated from Bangladesh. answer: The Maghs migrated from Arakan 2. The Maghs settled in four different districts of Bangladesh. 3. The ‘Marmas’ and ‘Rakhaines’ live on the plains as well as the hills. answer: The Marmas live in the hilly region and the Rakhaines live in the plains. 4. The Maghs are hard working people. 5. Almost all Magh women can weave clothes. answer: All Maghs women can weave clothes.

Vocabulary: Settle : determine, decide Weave : knit loom : weaving machine thatch: a roofing material that consists of straw. crush : to break into small particles fermentation : a chemical change because of the action of some bacteria, e.g. Fruit juices ferment if they are kept for too long.

  11. PAIR WORKRead the text and answer the questions the follow.

  12. 1. What are the benefits of building a house on a high platform? Ans : The benefits of building a house on a high platform are that it does not get damp and it is safe from different insects and animals. 2. What materials do they use to build house? Ans: They use timber and bamboo. 3. Describe the ‘Maghs’ house? Ans: The walls of the house are made of bamboo slates and the house has a thatched roof.

  13. INDIVIDUAL WORKLook at the diagram and read the information in the boxes. Write the process of preparing sticky rice from the clues.

  15. First, rice is washed and put inside a bamboo tube. Then water is poured into the tube as required. Next the mouth of the tube is closed with banana leaves . After that the tubes are heated on a fire. After some time when the rice has boiled sufficiently, it is taken away from the fire and cooled. Sticky rice is now prepared. In order to eat the sticky rice the tubes have to be broken.

  16. ASESSMENT • How do they eat bamboo shoots? Explain it.

  17. HOME WORKWhich of the two foods morog polau and khichuri you would like to prepare. Note the ingredients down on the khata. You have to write how to prepare the food in the same manner that I have done for ‘sticky rice’ .
