Program Goals • Provide internship opportunities for second generation of overseas Taiwanese to: obtain in-depth understanding of Taiwan, develop a strong bond with the nation, increase international support for Taiwan. • Promote interchanges of ideas between local and foreign students, and elevate language capabilities of local Taiwanese youth.

Candidate Qualification and Expenses • Between 18 ~ 30 years of age • Must be of Taiwanese Descent • Emigrated from Taiwan before age 12 or began and completed junior high through high school in a foreign country. • Must be able to communicate in Mandarin Chinese or English. • Paid by Interns • Round-trip airfare to/from Taiwan • Living expenses in Taiwan • Provided by National Science Council • Subsidy of NT$1,000/day • Total of NT$ 50,000 (no absences) • Funded by National Science Council • One-week orientation • Weekend trip • Academic Conference and Award Night banquet

Application/Selection Process • Application • Complete and submit online application form (up to five internship preferences) • Provide supporting documents (Statement of Purpose, academic transcript, C.V., awards/letters of recommendation) • Screening process • Consulates/representative offices, embassies, S&T divisions evaluate basic candidate qualifications. • Selection process • Host institutes  rank qualified candidates • Matching • Rankings by host institutes • Candidate preferences • Cross-comparedby system placement

Program Requirements • Program Duration • Eight Weeks (one-week orientation + seven weeks internships) • Important Activities • Orientation • Lectures, visits to cultural sites • Internships • Weekend trip • Eastern Taiwan • Academic Conference • Interns present work results (individual/group) • Award Night • Confer awards to top presentations at Conference • Final Essay and Survey • Essay detailing Taiwan experience • Academic Paper (optional) • Publish research papers from internship work
