  1. Mrs. Jones’ Weekly NewsOctober 19, 2012 Language Arts This week we have re-read our story A Splendid Friend, Indeed. Each kiddo had a chance to read his/her own copy of this book and then we were able to partner read too. Plus, we also read 3 Pre-decodable books (books using sight words and picture clues)…The Park, Lunch, and School. Ask your kiddo which one was his/her favorite. Keep working on Sound Parts in words (syllables). Continue practicing sight words with your kiddo at home…we will be sending home a sight word book with your kiddo in the next few weeks for you to practice with them at home. Reading Strategies We are continuing to work on Comparing and Contrasting stories using a T-Chart this week as well using Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and Somebody and the 3 Blairs. We have also been working on Inferences in a story too. Math In math this week, we have started our unit on Patterns…sound patterns, color patterns, object patterns, and shape patterns. We made fruit loop bracelets to show a color pattern. Hope you had a chance to see these before your kiddo ate them. Be sure to look over your kiddos family fun homework activity on Patterns and work on it together. We will be continuing to work with shape and object patterns next week too! Ask your kiddo to tell you what kind of letter pattern they created after they make a pattern…Ex: AB AB AB or ABC ABC ABC or AAB AAB AAB IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Monday, Oct. 22nd ~ A substitute will be in for me all day Tuesday, October 23rd ~ Lead 21 packets are due Thursday, Oct. 25th ~ Family Fun Math Homework is Due on Patterns Math Test on Patterns will take place Friday, Oct. 26th ~ AM Halloween Parade will take place at 10am PM Halloween Parade will take place at 2:15pm ****Please be sure to read over the separate Halloween Party/Parade Procedures found on the back of this Newsletter**** Please have ALL Kindergarten Kiddos dressed and ready to go in his/her costumes BEFORE they arrive at school.**** Alphabet Fun We have continued on with our special Letter a Day activities! We did letters Mm through Qq. We are still writing down the names of the boys and girls that have these letters in his/her name. Ask your kiddo all about WHO LET THE LETTERS OUT?!? Plus, have your kiddo tell you all about how the letter Q is married to the letter U.  Social Studies Last week the firefighters came to our school to discuss fire safety! We discussed how and when to use 9-1-1 (only in an emergency situation). We talked about how to crawl low to the ground and how to Stop! Drop! Roll! Cool! And Call! Plus, we know that it is important for all boys and girls to know their own address. And we also talked about how each child should know at least 2 ways out of his/her home(s) and a special meeting place too! Please be sure that your Fire Safety Packet was completed and turned in (if you haven’t done so already).
