Cancer causes fear and strong feelings. Many patients come to the doctor with prejudgments regarding the disease that are not correct and that are often frightening than reality. Patients are equally scared of chemotherapy, a cancer treatment, when it is their best chance of survival.

  3. What is Chemotherapy? Chemotherapy uses strong chemicals to remove cancer cells in the body.. Chemotherapy is not one medicine but a mixture of many different medications. Drugs in chemotherapy can be used alone or in association to treat cancer.

  4. How Often Is Chemotherapy Given? Chemotherapy treatment in Chennai is usually given in repeating cycles. The length of a cycle may vary according to the treatment being given. Most cycles range from 3 to 6 weeks. The number of treatment doses planned within each cycle also varies according to the drugs being given.

  5. How Is Chemotherapy Given? When the patient comes to the cancer hospital for a chemotherapy treatment, he/she has to first undergo a health check-up which would include weight, height, and blood tests. These are done to ensure that the patient is doing well since the last treatment and is strong enough to take the next. The check-up also helps the doctors calculate the dosage that is to be given to the patient. It will depend on the current weight of the patient. The chemotherapy treatment can take place from 2 to 4 hours. The patient can return home once the treatment is over, the same day. Chemotherapy sounds scary, but remembers that it is your best chance to beat cancer.
