  1. 11 Key Facts about Motivation By Kim Anderson

  2. Know yourself and believe in you! • Discovering yourself is a lifetime process. But in order to be inspired and set a goal, to take action and to achieve, you need to believe in yourself. And in order to do that you need to know yourself. What do you like? What do you dislike? What do you think about yourself? How do other people see you? What are your talents? What do you like to do/work/create? What are your expectations? What can you do or what you can’t do? Once you know that, you have your goals clear in your mind, you know what you need, what you want to become and why is that important.

  3. Set a goal • Clear, simple and big! Big enough to make you stretch knowing that this will bring you happiness, independence, balance and satisfaction. The fact that you settle a goal means that you want more, more from yourself. It means that deep inside there is something in you which has not been discovered and valued, it is something that needs to come at light. • Goals can be short-term, middle-term and long-term. Make a plan with these 3 categories. This will help you be constantly on the track. Of course you will change them on the way because you will change or because you will discover yourself. You will see that whatever you think now is the precious thing missing, maybe it is not really the key.

  4. Practice and develop your abilities • It is necessary to practice and develop the following abilities: desire, focus, observation and flexibility.

  5. Desire is the force which will help you get beyond your comfort zone and will give you the drive and willing for change. It will also be a meaning for all your efforts and will give you the strength to overcome all the obstacles. Focus will help you stay on track keeping in mind your goals and objectives. It will help you concentrate on our goal and get rid of negative thoughts, influences and most important fear. Observation is the ability which can help you analyse what is happening around you and within. You need to analyse your actions, emotions and thoughts in order to be focused on what you want to accomplish. Flexibility will help you change on your way so that you will succeed. It is the ability to make your journey easier, to embrace opportunities, to change whatever is necessary inside or outside. Practice and develop them by reading motivational materials and listening to them everyday! Listen to success stories, people that have made a difference, people that know that even though it is hard to change, it is worth it! In your way to work and back, when you take your dog for a walk, when you exercise, when you eat, 5 minutes if you have, choose any motivational video from http://www.youtube.com and listen to it. 6. Don’t harm yourself with negative thoughts • We deliberately harm ourselves with negative energy whether it is with negative affirmations that we pronounce daily or discouraging ourselves thinking whatever we think, act or want is wrong, that we are not worth it, that we affect other people simply because they don’t understand our needs. We do that often and unlimited, usually without knowing it. And here comes the power of observation and analysis. Once we realize we do this, we need to stop and change. Whatever your limitations are in this moment, they are going to be forever until you change. “Hard times did not come to stay, they have come to pass” as Les Brown says. Everything is temporary, we all are as human beings. • Don’t harm yourself with fear and lack of self-worth. These negative energies will block your way through new opportunities since you will not be able to see them, appreciate their values and embrace them. Have the courage to act, to try, to feel exhausted, to push your limits, to blow your own mind with new ideas. • YOU are the first and most important friend to yourself : take care of you, find your strengths and affirm them to yourself on a daily basis, encourage yourself, reward yourself. You don’t need others to do it, if they don’t see your efforts and accomplishments it is because they don’t have the same goals as you have.

  7. Control your emotions • “We are emotional, but you want to begin to discipline your emotions. If you don’t discipline and contain your emotions, they will use you!” says Les Brown. Fear, disappointment, the will to give up, regrets, feeling powerless, feeling worthless, frustration, envy, anxiety, humiliation, overwhelm – whatever negative emotion that you have, say it to yourself: “I’m not going to let this get me down! I’m not going to let this destroy me! I’m coming back and I’ll be stronger and better because of it! You have got to make a declaration! That this is what you stand for: you’re standing up for your dreams, you’re standing up for peace of mind, for your health! “( Les Brown ).

  8. Fail and get back again • The most important thing in cultivating your motivation is to act. Action will give you strength, power, resilience and will test your limits. And most important, will get you out of your comfort zone and push your limits. And once you do that, there are 2 possibilities: you succeed or you fail. Failure is part of the process. You need to know that before you begin. By cultivating your abilities and by practice, you will have the power to get back on the track. Your desire for achieving your goals will be the drive and the power to focus will not let you give up. No one has succeeded by giving up. No excuse is accepted. Whenever you fail on your journey, try again, you won’t take it from scratch even if it seems so. Be flexible and open to new challenges and you will make it.

  9. Take responsibility for your actions • Take responsibility for using your spare time for the benefit of your goals. Take responsibility for getting negative people out of your life. Take responsibility for accepting new challenges knowing you will have the power to overcome them. Take responsibility for your results. It is important to do this from the start in order to focus on what is meaningful and useful for you. It will be hard at the beginning but once you fight with yourself, you will arrive at destination.

  10. Develop new skills • Learn, read, watch movies and gather materials that can help you develop. Information makes the differences. Skills will give you new opportunities, will help you make 1000 steps quicker than you do right now. Studying will bring you around people that share the same passions, the same goals, that can inspire you. Whether the are new language skills, soft skills, technical skills, everything happens for a reason. It will surely be useful at one time in your journey, and the more you have the easier it will be. Also, the satisfaction you get once you know you have learned something new will make you feel self-confident and creative.

  11. Watch that inner conflict • When you begin this process, you will be facing yourself! And YOU will be your biggest and most frightful enemy. Your habits, negative emotions, lack of skills ( they are never too many ),  being comfortable, your vocabulary, the use of your spare time, the people around you – many of these will need to be changed. You will feel like taking a break, you will want to do something else since it will become difficult, your mind will play with a lot of question marks: Is this right? What will others think? Why don’t you try the easy way? Is it worth it? Why not, just for 1 week, postpone every action, what can happen? Be focused on your goals and on your plan, don’t be distracted by your own mind.

  12. Take care of your health • Whatever you wish for yourself, take care of your health! It will help you work better and do more efforts. It will help your mind work at full capacity and will make you feel the glory at maximum. You will feel good with yourself and it will be a positive accomplishment that you always have to think about. Don’t go at the doctor only when you feel sick, prevent yourself.

  13. It is never too late to start! • “Ray Kroc Was 53 when he bought the McDonalds Franchise and took it to unprecedented levels.Dr. Seuss was 54 when he wrote “The Cat in the Hat”.Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III was 57 years old when he successfully ditched US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River in 2009. All of the 155 passengers aboard the aircraft survived.Colonel Harland Sanders was 61 when he started the KFC Franchise.J.R.R Tolkien was 62 when the Lord of the Ring books came out.Ronald Reagan was 69 when he became President of the US.Jack Lalane at age 70 handcuffed, shackled, towed 70 rowboats.Nelson Mandela was 76 when he became President.” – Pablo.
