  2. Early Life • Born in 1879 on a frontier ranch near what would become Oologah, Oklahoma. • His parents Clemet and Mary were each part Cherokee. • His mother died when he was eleven. • He was taught by a freed slave how to use a lasso.

Continued…… • Later was listed in Guinness book of world record for throwing three lassos at once. • After the 10th grade he dropped out of school to become a cowboy. • Most people viewed him as a funny smart person who always told the truth in words everyone could understand. • “Alexander Hamilton started the U.S. Treasury with nothing, and that was the closest our country has ever been to being even.”

  4. Early Career • He started his career as a trick roper in Wild West Carnivals. • Then he started performing on stage telling jokes and interesting stories during his roping tricks. • In 1905 Rogers made his New York debut at Madison Square Garden. • He then started in vaudeville shows. • In his shows he often made parodies of serious matters in the newspapers.
