  3. VERBS • There are two types of verbs in Spanish: • REGULAR • IRREGULAR • Every (infinitive) verb has two parts: • STEM • ENDING HABL AR CANT AR STEM ENDING STEM ENDING

  4. VERBS • The three possible types of endings are: • AR • ER • IR • Every verb has a root form called an INFINITIVE. • Some examples of an INFINITIVE are hablar, correr, escribir.

  5. VERBS • WHAT IS VERB CONJUGATION? • We must change a verb so it makes sense in a sentence. We do it in English as well. We do not say “I be hot.”, rather we say “I am hot.” We must also change a verb in Spanish so it makes sense. • Verb Conjugation is changing a verb to make it make sense to different subjects. • WHY DO WE CONJUGATE VERBS? • We conjugate a verb to make a particular subject perform that action.

  6. HOW DO WE CONJUGATE VERBS? • It’s easy. Figure out WHO is performing the action. • IDENTIFY the action (to eat, to look for, to write, to study, etc.) • DETERMINE what kind of verb it is. • FIND and REMOVE the ending. • REPLACE with the new ending based on its position in the chart. 
