Glasgow North Ltd is the local development company for North Glasgow. • KEY OBJECTIVES: • 1 Assist local people to access employment opportunities. • 2 Assist local people to sustain their employability by promoting a culture of lifelong learning and development. • 3 Support the formation of new businesses within the area. • 4 Encourage existing employers to grow, develop and increase their competitiveness. • 5 Promote the physical regeneration of the area.

KEY OUTCOMES 2002 1,128local people were helped into jobs 348local people were assisted into Further Education 568local people were assisted with accessing vocational training 440employees of local companies were supported with training 42new businesses were assisted to set up in the area These businesses created 111 new local jobs 275local private sector employers received assistance 65local social economy sector employers received assistance 51 companies received assistance with property enquiries

KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE CHARTER: • To recruit as many local unemployed people as possible in the new Tesco store • To contribute to the creation of a winning culture in an area characterised by high unemployment and low educational achievement • To identify routes of funding that could be used to support the work of the Partnership • To contribute to the existing employment strategy for the area • To disseminate lessons learned from the Partnership both locally and nationally

  8. HOW OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED: • Skills, experience, local knowledge and existing partnerships • Developed a customised training programme • Pre-training • Mentoring • Raising Awareness - communication • Managing Expectations

  9. ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR: 527 full and part time jobs at Tesco St Rollox 474 local people offered jobs and started work 332 job opportunities taken up by people who were unemployed 82% recruits completed training and started work in store 92% staff at Tesco St Rollox are local people

  10. ADDITIONAL IMPACT: Since starting work: 44% of the people going through the training programme have less visits to their GP 40% feel that their health has improved 24% have joined a gym 24% are planning to go on holiday
