The Driving Forces at a State DOT • 43,000 People Die Every Year on Our Roadways • Leading Cause of Death Between Ages 4 – 33 • 50% of the Deaths Occur from Intersection Collision and Leaving the Roadway • Traffic Crashes Cost the Economy $230B/Yr • Traffic Congestion Costs Americans $63B/Yr • Congestion Wastes Billions of Gallons of Fuel

  9. DUAP Purpose • Evaluate the uses and benefits of VII-related data in supporting MDOT • Responding to safety concerns • Managing traffic • Managing transportation assets • Support other ongoing VII activities • Technical development • Economic growth

  10. DUAP Objectives • Identify MDOT uses for VII data • Develop algorithms to analyze and process VII data • Develop prototype applications for processed data for MDOT • Evaluate impacts of VII data and algorithms in the DOT
