  1. Digital Communication System Lab. Ph.D. Sooyoung Kim (Professor) http://home.jbnu.ac.kr/sookim E-mail : sookim@jbnu.ac.kr Tel. 82-63-270-3992, Fax:-82-63-270-2394 사진 Educational Background : • BSc in Electrical and Electronics Eng. at KAIST, Korea • MSc in Electrical and Electronics Eng. at the University of Surrey, U.K • Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Eng. at the University of Surrey, U.K Areas of Teaching Interest : • Communication Theory; • Error Correction Coding Theory; • Wireless and Satellite Communications; • Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics Areas of Research Interest : • Coded MIMO techniques with soft iterative detection • Forward error correction coding scheme for wireless systems • MIMO-OFDM • OFDM for satellite communication systems • Cooperative diversity technique On Going Research Issues : • Rateless codes with soft iterative decoding • Coded MIMO techniques with soft iterative detection • MIMO technique for mobile satellite communication systems • Standardization of satellite component of IMT-Advanced Description of Research : My research interests were focused on developing efficient transmission techniques for digital satellite communication systems, during the period when I was worked as a team leader from 1996 to 2004, in the Satellite Communication Technology Division, ETRI, Korea. My research interests include forward error correction coding schemes and multi-carrier transmission techniques for digital satellite communication systems. I have been working on ITU-R since 2000, and have contributed to make radio interface standard of satellite component in the IMT system. Now, I am actively working on soft joint iterative detection for coded MIMO scheme for wireless communication systems as well as rateless codes for highly asymmetric channels.
