  1. Building the 5.5 HP Tecumseh Crank, Camshaft, Piston, Lifters

  2. Inserting the Crankshaft • Insert the crank shaft into the engine block with the gear side facing UP • The Crankshaft should move freely

  3. Inserting the Piston and Connecting Rod • Using the Ring Compressor tool, crimp the tool around the piston head. • Once the rings are compressed place the connecting rod in the cylinder. • Have the facing the oil valley.

  4. Connecting the Rod and Piston • Adjust the crankshaft so that the counterweight is pointing directly into the cylinder • 2. Next, align the connecting rod cap with the “hump” facing down, to the bottom of the connecting rod

  5. Connecting the Rod and Piston • Align the RIGHT bolt and hand screw the connecting rod cap to the connecting rod. • 4. Align the “oil striker” over the LEFT hole and hand screw in the bolt. • Tighter with ¼ drive ratchet, and 6mm short socket until snug. DON’T OVER TIGHTEN!

  6. Adding the Lifters • Place the lifters in the two slots to the right hand slots on the engine block (They can go in either position)

  7. Adding the Camshaft • Place the camshaft into the slot below the crankshaft. • Carefully push the camshaft into position lining the “teeth” of the camshaft gears to that of the crankshaft “teeth”.

  8. Camshaft Timing Marks • Mark sure that the two timing marks are lined up together. • The “dimples” should be aligned as shown in the picture to the right.

  9. Placing the Gasket and Crank Cover • CAREFULLY place the Crank Cover Gasket on your engine block • Align the cover over the holes on your engine block.

  10. Adding the Crank Cover • CAREFULLY place the Crank Cover over the top of the Crankshaft and gently push the cover down towards the block. • Align the cover over the holes on your engine block. • Tighten down the crankcase bolts to 20lbs Torque Pressure.

  11. HI FIVE! • YOU’VE COMPLETED THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF THE ENGNE BUILD!! THE DRIVETRAIN!!!
