  6. Evaluations… • Think about a recent evaluation • What was the take home message? • Was it positive or negative? • Was there praise offered that you can remember? • Can you reframe the negative with the positive? • Next evaluation • Write down the good stuff!

  7. Broadening and building Alternative to reaction to stimuli that might trigger fight or flight We are able to care for others and build skills when we are challenged. Positive emotions broaden one's awareness and encourage novel, varied, and exploratory thoughts and actions. Over time, this broadened behavioral repertoire builds even more skills and resources.

  12. What Good is Gratitude? • Gratitude allows celebration of the present • Gratitude overwrites negative emotion (envy, resentment, regret, depression) • Grateful people are stress-resilient • Gratitude strengthens social ties and self-worth

  13. Expressing Gratitude Grab a pen and paper and write a letter of appreciation to someone – anyone. Take five minutes to explain something they did, how it impacted you and the benefits you received. Whether you share the letter or not, it can have lasting impacts, increasing happiness while lowering depressing thoughts because focusing on benefits forces us to linger on positive thoughts.
