INDIA - DEVELOPMENTS • APEDA, Ministry of Commerce – • National Program on Organic Production (NPOP), Govt of India, since 2001National Standards: NSOP- Acquired status of equivalence with EU and NOP standards. • Stringent accreditation norms and strict monitoring • Strong traceability - Tracenet • Min of Agriculture – promotional schemes – Small farmers • 15 states formulated/ formulating its own Organic farming Policies, since 2004

  14. INDIA – STATE POLICIES 1. Profitability of small farmers will have increased by reducing input costs. State benefited by savings on fertilizers 2. Organic agribusiness – An attractive opportunity for educated youth of the state- • Creates a variety of job opportunities in the organic agribusiness sector, (e.g. post harvest handling, marketing of the products). • Develop Bio Villages, Organic Villages for agro tourism, as part of the tourism development strategy of the state. The strategy will help convert organics into services with high value addition. 4.
