Context • Abstract from the DG EMPL web site: • “The Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities has the task of contributing to the development of a modern, innovative and sustainable European Social Model with more and better jobs in an inclusive society based on equal opportunities.” • “It plays a key role in promoting positive interaction between economic, social and employment policies, bringing in the main players who can help to achieve the EU strategic objective, to make Europe the world most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy, capable of sustainable economic growth, with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion.”

  3. Purpose of the project • DG EMPL required the upgrade of the “Publications” section of its web site • http://ec.europa.eu/employment_social/emplweb/publications/index_en.cfm

Purpose of the project • Create and assist in the presentation of all the relevant information • Facilitate the update and management of the relevant content through the use of an interactive Web Content Management tool • Design the structure of the new web site • Transfer content of the existing “Publications web site” to the new site • Application of a new presentation template for specific documents ("Social Agenda“) • Hosting of the web site on the EUROPA servers, respecting EUROPA’s IPG guidelines

  6. WCMS • Based on the « Web publisher » product from EMC Documentum • This product can manage web sites through 3 kinds of stage : WIP (Work in progress), Staging (tests), Production • Common tool for all the Directorates General, hosted at the Data Center (DG DIGIT)

  11. Extraction process (1/2) • No need of web extractor tool! • Content and metada are copied/pasted into well-formed XML files • PDF and image files are downloaded • All generated files are organized to ease the import in the WCMS
