  1. AUGUST

  2. August 1 An air force engineer was doing an LSRL analysis for his collected data. One of the criteria for this analysis is to check the scatter plot. As he makes the scatter plot, he notices that the scatter plot is linear, positive, strong, and has no deviations. What is the best logical value of the correlation of this scatter plot based on the given information?

  3. August 1 Response R= 1 A strong, linear and positive scatter plot with no deviations show that the correlation of the data is very strong. If the data has a strong correlation, then the correlation (r) would be close to 1. r must be between -1 and 1.

  4. August 2 A student was doing his homework and one of his problems asked to find the horizontal asymptote. The line’s equation was . What is the horizontal asymptote?

  5. August 2 Response Horizontal asymptote = 2 To find the horizontal asymptote, you have to look for the greatest common exponent in both the numerator and the denominator. Since the greatest common exponent was 2, the horizontal asymptote is 2.

  6. August 3 Point A is the center of the circle. What is the measure of angle BDC? S 3o 3° B D C T A

  7. August 3 Angle BDC = 3o Angle BDC= ½ (arc BC + arc ST) Angle BDC = ½ (3+3) Angle BDC= 3 S 3o 3° B D C T A

  8. August 4 A local coast guard came home from his shift and his son asked him for help on his geometry homework. He needed to find the directrix of a parabola. The equation of the parabola is . What is the directrix?

  9. August 4 Response Directrix= 4 To find the directrix, you have to use the formula for c first. The formula is: Then you take the y coordinate and subtract the c from the y coordinate to get your directrix .

  10. August 5 How many steps are there to complete a valid simulation?

  11. August 5 Response There are 5 steps to completing a valid simulation: 1. state the problem/ question 2. state assumptions 3. assign random phenomenon outcomes to situations 4. Perform simulation 5. State conclusion

  12. August 6 A girl was drawing shapes one day. She drew a trapezoid. Then another kid comes over and asks if she dimensioned the trapezoid she just drew, what would the area be. Using the figure below, what would the area of the trapezoid be? 2in in 1in 3in

  13. August 6 Response 6 in2 First, you need to find the height of the trapezoid. To do this, you need to use the Pythagorean theorem, a2 + b2 = c2. After you find the height, then you use the formula to find the area of a trapezoid: = = a=6in2

  14. August 7 • A math teacher handed out a 10 question pop quiz to 6 students on what they learned their previous school year. Their scores out of 10 were 7, 8, 5, 9, 5, and 8. What is the average score of these six students?

  15. August 7 Response • Average score (mean) = 7 • 7 + 8 + 5 + 9 + 5 + 8 = 42 42 / 6 = 7

  16. August 8 • What is the value of h (using vertex form) when x = ½ (y-8)2 – 3?

  17. August 8 Response • x = a(y-h)2 + k • Vertex form = (k, h) (3, 8)

  18. August 9 • How many sides does a nonagon have?

  19. Question #9 Response • 9 2 1 3 9 8 4 7 5 6

  20. August 10 The sum of a number and the sample size of a sample data gives you N ≥ (as one of the criteria checks when you perform a statistical test or interval). What is that number that you use to multiply by the sample size to figure out N ≥?

  21. Question #10 Response • N ≥ 10n

  22. August 11 • Jose wants to know the probability that the next car to drive by on the street is red car. In the time he spent, he observed 200 cars and 22 of them were red. What is the of the data for red cars?

  23. August 11 Response • = 22/200 = .11

  24. August 12 A student was bored one day and decided to take a sample of the number of yellow flowers there were in a garden. In his sample of 50 flowers, there were two yellow flowers. In another sample of 50 flowers, there were ten yellow flowers. Find P.

  25. August 12 Response P = .12 P= = (2 + 10)/ (50 + 50) =.12

  26. August 13 • Question: • In the novel flatland if a dodecagon has a child and the natural law applies to the child, how many sides would the child expect to have?

  27. August 13 • Answer • You would expect the child to have a total of thirteen sides. Since the natural law states a child is to have one more side then their parents. 12+1=13

  28. August 14 • Question: • If a matrix table has a total of 8 columns and 3 rows. What would the degree of freedom be? [ ] 1 25 75 2 6 9 26 21 45 69 5 31 2 8 98 23 54 96 7 13 5 46 74 1

  29. August 14 • Answer • Equation D.F.= (r-1)*(C-1) • The matrix has a degree of freedom of 14 since D.F.=(3-1)*(8-1)= (2)*(7)=14

  30. August 15 • Question • If a ladder is placed at a 60ْ from the side of a wall and the length of the ladder is 17.32m how tall is the wall? 17.32m X 60˚

  31. August 15 • Answer • Using trigonometry the answer is that the wall is 15 m tall. • Sin(X)=Opp/hyp = Sin(60)=X/17.32 • X=17.32*Sin(60) • X=15m

  32. August 16 • Question • Givens: A student receives a box of fries which he believes is less then the average amount of fries in a local Portillo’s. He decides to use a significance test and test his order and compare it to the average order of fries which is 16 oz. He received 12 oz. of fries. with a standard deviation of 2 oz. What should his null hypothesis be?

  33. August 16 • Answers: • The students Null hypothesis is Ho: μ = 16

  34. August 17 • A tree diagram was conducted to assess the quality of calculators for the new school year. What is the missing probability (x) of the tree diagram. Calculator turns on Yes .83 Calculator Quality Button functions No (X) Yes .95 No .05

  35. August 17 • The missing probability is .17 since the sum of two probabilities must equal 1. • .17+.83=1

  36. August 18 • Question • If the critical value of a confidence interval is Z=.915 Then determine the difference of 100 % and the confidence percentage.

  37. August 18 • The confidence level for a z score of -1.34 is 82%. The difference of 100% and 82% is 18% • Z=/1.34 = 82% confidence • 100%-82%= 18%

  39. Answer 15^2+11.7^2=X2 225+106.09 361.09=X2 X=19 feet

  40. August 20 The Zooley toy boat company did an experiment, and forgot the sample mean. The z-score= -1, μ=25, σ=5. The sample size is the same as the population. What’s the sample mean?

  41. Answer X-25/5=-1 -5=x-25 X=20
