  1. Room 307 Newsletter Mrs. Etrheim, January 13th – 17th The second school week of January will be a busy one for the fourth graders. There is no school for students on Friday, January 17th, and we have the school-wide Health(y) Fair on Thursday the 16th(more on this below) . In turn, there will be no new spelling words for students next week. While we will have vocabulary words, the students will not be tested on them. The students have been learning about the northeast region of the U.S. for several weeks, and we are finally wrapping up this part of our Social Studies curriculum. In turn, the students will be tested on the names, locations, and abbreviations of each state in the Northeast (not the entire United States). We have practiced labeling the map in class, and so students should be relatively familiar with the states and their locations. We have talked a lot about resources that come from the Northeast, and students will receive extra points for identifying some of the region’s resources. Smith’s health initiative continues with the school-wide Health(y) Fair on Thursday, January 16th. Our class will be visiting several stations throughout the day including Easy-to-Make Healthy Snacks, Healthy Body Image, Lacrosse demonstrations, and Circuit Training. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes on Thursday so that they can actively participate in the stations. In keeping with this spirit of healthiness, I ask that families and students are mindful of what students bring to school for a snack. Foods like chips, cookies, and candy do not necessarily provide the best form of brain power, and so healthier options, like fruits and vegetables, are encouraged. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at alissa.etrheim@eu.dodea.edu.
