  8. WBS 1.2 Booster FY13 Q3Summary Tasks at a Glance William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  9. WBS 1.2 Booster (Highlights)1.2.2.3Notcher System • 1.2.1.5Cavity Refurbishment Cavity preparing to repair flanges Buildup of High Voltage Rack for Short Kickers Cones and new cooling loops Labor intensive work William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  10. Saga of new ferrites for cavity tuners Issues: Old Vendors Gone New vendors having difficulty making similar ferrites…. Looking for high Q, low loss and two values of mu ~(12, 20) TD ready to build tuners once we have ferrites William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  12. WBS 1.2.2 Accelerator Physics (Booster) • WBS 1.2.2.2 Alignment & Aperture • Magnet moves • Scans Location Long 16 Vertical Move This was the fourth area where we moved magnets…. More to come mm Tunnel Location William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  13. Budget and Labor Review Summary William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  14. FY13 To-date FTEs by OHAP – Fcstvs Act William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  15. FY13 To-date FTEs by Div – Fcst vs Act William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  16. PIP Labor Usage (FTE) Planned Actual William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  17. PIP M&S 82% of FY13 Allocated April - Correction for Solid State Task Closure Labor & M&S K$ William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  18. Supplemental Spending Additional funds were provided in July – Although part of Q4 – This is a significant $$ and will have a positive effect on the schedule. Part of funds will be used to remedy the recent PS budgets which impacted PIP goals (7835 tubes). Part of funds will be used to put back track PIP items impacted from previous reductions (e.g. laser notcher). Part of funds will be used to move tasks forward (Refurb) William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  19. Plans - Schedule

  20. Proton Source/PIP – FY13 Calendar While waiting for users PIP continues to take advantage of Proton Source only operations: Goals (PIP & PS) On Schedule OLD Booster Beam Dump/High Intensity Tuning MI Startup Q2 William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  21. Proton Improvement Plan Projection NOvA Shutdown 120 GeV LBNE g-2 8 GeV Mu2e MiniBooNE Maybe William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  22. Additional PIP Items

  23. Cooperation on Linac Power Amplifiers Brookhaven Linac is very similar design to Fermilab Low-Energy Linac • Not interested at this point in any financial arrangement SLAC SOW to provide expertise and local oversight for the klystron prototyping LANL has sent information on their pursuit of a 200 MHz klystron (CPI). Interested but still pursuing Thales tube. William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  24. Nigel 6 Nigel Tour of MI-60 / Cavity Refurbishment Work Nigel visit to MI-60 to try and understand why it is taking so long to refurbish cavities. Reassures us that once he is in charge – things will change. William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013

  25. PIP FY13 Q3 Summary & Concerns WBS 1.1 Linac • Linac WBS efforts are in good shape • Klystron effort continues – Business Services/CPI/PIP • Modulator efforts continue with both SLAC and AD/EE support • Simulation and Studies-> continue development code for DTL lattice, WBS 1.2 Booster • Cavity Refurbishment – Labor & Time constraints • Contract Employees • Dosage (ALARA) – will need to rotate personnel • Need to deal with operations vs. repair (MI startup) • Booster shielding – progressing • Booster Rep rate limit – still unresolved and require testing • Booster has not found a ferrite that meets our High μ need • Delaying new tuners • Booster High Intensity/rep rate: MI starts up soon and will be first real test Supplemental Funding – Big Boost and will help PIP/FY14 William Pellico, Fermilab PMG, Aug 21 2013
