  3. Design of the Experiments The time of fall of oil drop in the absence of field is measured between two fixed points. The drop falls due to gravity.

  4. Design of the Experiment The electric field needed to hold drop steady between the two plates is measured. When a drop is suspended, the force due to gravity (force down) equals the force due to electrical attraction to + plate (force up).
