Neighbor… • Luke10.27 • Love the Lord God and,… ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ • Matthew 22:40 • “ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” • Romans 13:9  • ... whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ • Luke 10: 29

The parable in Luke 10 • 29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And • who is my neighbor?” • 30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. • 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.  • 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

The parable in Luke 10 • 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.  • 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.  • 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ • Compassion and giving belong together!

God’s promises to the generous • Psalm 112 • 5 Good will come to those who are generous and lend • freely,who conduct their affairs with justice. • 9 They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,    their righteousness endures forever;    their horn will be lifted high in honor. • Proverbs 19 • 17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD,    and he will reward them for what they have done.

God’s promises to the generous • God loves a cheerful giver. • 2 Corinthians 9 • 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your • heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. • Giving is a Spiritual gift! • Romans 12 • 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us … if it is giving, then give generously…
